An analysis of reviews published on Tripadvisor reveals that Luxembourg City is, in the eyes of tourists, the most beautiful capital in Europe.
Who needs Rome when you can stroll through romantic little streets in Luxembourg?
As recently as last November, Luxembourg’s Christmas market was named the most beautiful in Europe by the BBC. Now the capital is receiving another spotlight: according to holidaymakers and travelers, it is quite simply the most beautiful capital on the continent. Yes, it’s true—when it comes to reviews, Luxembourg even ranks ahead of London, Paris, and Rome.
As reported by Travel + Leisure, the private tour operator Luxury France Tours published a study in December based on the analysis of Tripadvisor reviews left by three million people. Tripadvisor is the world’s largest travel platform, where users can not only book stays and attractions but also review them.
46 cities compared
The tour operator examined reviews of 46 European capitals, focusing in particular on the presence of keywords such as “magnificent” or “breathtaking.” According to the study, the word “beautiful” appears in 18.15% of comments—a record that clearly puts Luxembourg at the top of the ranking.
… and Monaco are considered particularly worth visiting by Tripadvisor travelers.
“Travelers often highlight the cleanliness of the streets and the successful balance between old and modern districts. Even though the capital is small, they seem to appreciate how easy it is to get around on foot,” the report notes. Second and third places go to Bratislava and Monaco respectively. Here too, reviews mainly emphasize the compact nature of these cities, ideal for exploring on foot, as well as their spectacular viewpoints.
“I find Luxembourg to be one of the most charming small cities in Europe, with excellent restaurants and high-quality cuisine. The locals are helpful, and the city center is full of pleasant places to discover,” writes one user.
